What is an EQIA?

An EQIA stands for Equality Impact Assessment.

An EQIA is a policy development tool that assists policymakers/decision-makers in taking into account the likely effects of a particular policy on people within the Section 75 equality groups.

EQIAs enable openness, transparency and early engagement in the policy development process.

What are Section 75 groups?

Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act places a statutory obligation on Public Authorities to carry out their functions with due regard to the need to promote equality of opportunity and good relations in respect of religious belief, political opinion, gender, race, disability, age, marital status, dependants and sexual orientation.

How can I take part?

To respond to this area of the strategy, download the Equality Impact Assessment document from this page.

Once you have read the document and considered it fully, you can contact us directly via the form on the ISNI 2050 Consultation page or by writing to us.
